2022 Chrysler Pacifica vs. 2022 Honda Odyssey Comparison

When a desire for convenience outweighs all other considerations, a minivan is always the answer. Today’s minivans are safer and more enjoyable to drive than vans of two decades ago, and the Chrysler Pacifica and Honda Odyssey exemplify this progress.

Both minivans continue to offer the space and useful features that have made them so endearing to families while integrating modern technology. You can get a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the Chrysler Pacifica, which features an advanced infotainment system. Both it and the Honda Odyssey pack in plenty of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS) as well.

If you’re shopping for a minivan, this 2022 Chrysler Pacifica vs. 2022 Honda Odyssey comparison will help you sort through all the details you need to know.

Price and Value

Consumers will find that the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica ranges in price from $36,665 to $54,480, not including the $1,495 destination charge. This range includes the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan that starts at $46,145.

Trim levels include Touring, Touring L, Limited, and Pinnacle. Chrysler offers a conventional gasoline V6 engine on all trim levels, while the hybrid powertrain comes on all trims, except the base Touring. If you’re shopping for used Chrysler Pacificas, you might encounter the Voyager, a lower-cost version of the Pacifica minivan that Chrysler sells primarily to commercial fleets.

Every Chrysler Pacifica has 7-passenger seating as standard. On the Pacifica Touring and the non-hybrid Touring L, there’s an optional 8-passenger configuration that places a removable center seat between the minivan’s second-row captain’s chairs. Chrysler also offers all-wheel-drive (AWD) on the standard Pacifica; it’s optional on both Touring trims and standard on the Limited and Pinnacle. The Pacifica Hybrid is front-wheel-drive only.

All 2022 Pacificas come with a one-year trial subscription to Sirius XM Guardian connected services. The package includes remote locking and engine start, automatic collision notification, live emergency assistance, rapid access to roadside services, stolen-vehicle services, and a vehicle-finder feature for unfamiliar parking facilities. You’ll also get a Wi-Fi hotspot with a 3-month trial subscription.

Chrysler does not offer complimentary scheduled maintenance.

Shoppers will find that the 2022 Honda Odyssey minivan ranges in price from $38,290 to $48,020, not including the $1,225 destination charge. The Odyssey comes in LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite trim levels. All trims come with a conventional V6 engine.

In addition, all Honda Odysseys, except the base LX, have 8-passenger seating. The LX has an open center aisle between its second-row chairs and tops out at 7. Front-wheel drive is standard across the board.

Honda doesn’t offer many connected services until you get to the Touring trim level. The 2022 Odyssey Touring and Elite come with a one-year trial subscription to HondaLink Security, which includes automatic collision notification, live emergency assistance, and rapid access to roadside assistance. You get a 3-month trial for remote access features, geofencing for less trusted drivers, stolen-vehicle services, a parking-lot finder feature, and concierge services. These trim levels also have a Wi-Fi hotspot that comes with a 3-month trial subscription.

There’s no free scheduled maintenance on the Odyssey. But Honda’s minivan holds its value well. The Odyssey is the highest-ranked minivan in the J.D. Power 2020 Resale Value Awards.

Reliability and Quality

The Chrysler Pacifica ranks third among Minivans in the J.D. Power 2021 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) but did not make the top three in the J.D. Power 2021 Initial Quality Study (IQS). The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica comes with the following warranty and roadside assistance coverage:

  • Standard warranty: 3 years or 36,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty: 5 years or 60,000 miles
  • Hybrid system warranty: 8 years or 80,000 miles
  • Hybrid battery warranty: 10 years or 100,000 miles (10 years or 150,000 miles in California emissions states)
  • Roadside assistance: 5 years or 60,000 miles

The Honda Odyssey does not rank among the top three models in its segment in the 2021 VDS, but it ranks second among Minivans in the 2021 IQS. The 2022 Honda Odyssey comes with the following warranty and roadside assistance coverage:

  • Standard warranty: 3 years or 36,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty: 5 years or 60,000 miles
  • Roadside assistance: 3 years or 36,000 miles

Performance and Efficiency

Consumers have two engine options on the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica. First up is a 3.6-liter V6 engine rated at 287 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. A 9-speed automatic transmission drives either the front wheels or all four with the optional AWD system.

Your other option is the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, which uses a hybrid-specific version of the V6 in combination with two electric motors and a battery pack. Together, they make 260 hp. Instead of a conventional automatic transmission, the Pacifica PHEV has an electric continuously variable transmission (eCVT).

Predictably, the hybrid Pacifica minivan is heavier and a bit slower than the regular version. Still, J.D. Power’s independent testing experts have found that it responds well in traffic while providing whisper-quiet operation.

With the standard 287-hp V6, the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica has a 3,600-pound tow rating. Chrysler does not recommend towing a trailer with the plug-in hybrid Pacifica.

Front-wheel-drive Pacificas with the conventional V6 engine rate 22 mpg in combined city and highway driving. With AWD, the combined rating drops to 20 mpg. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Pacifica Hybrid rates an impressive 30 mpg combined and provides an estimated 32 miles of all-electric driving range.

You’ll find only a gasoline V6 engine on the 2022 Honda Odyssey, but it’s a good one. The creamy-smooth 3.5-liter V6 generates 280 hp and 262 pound-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission drives the front wheels. The Odyssey has a 3,500-pound tow rating.

The 2022 Honda Odyssey rates 22 mpg in combined city and highway driving.

Safety and Driving Assistance

Safety is usually a major consideration for minivan shoppers. The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica comes with a standard menu of ADAS that includes a forward-collision warning (FCW) system with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking (AEB). You also get lane-departure warning (LDW), lane-keeping assistance (LKA), a blind-spot warning (BSW) system with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic rear braking (active when you’re in reverse), and adaptive cruise control (ACC). The Pacifica Pinnacle adds low-speed, front automated braking to keep you from tapping obstacles when parking.

The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica earned 5 stars out of 5 overall in National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) safety testing. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the structurally similar 2021 Pacifica a Good rating in all crash-test categories.

Every 2022 Honda Odyssey comes with a standard menu of ADAS known as Honda Sensing. On the Odyssey, this package includes FCW with AEB and pedestrian detection, LDW, and LKA (though Honda calls it Road Departure Mitigation). The Odyssey also provides standard Level 2 semi-autonomous driving assistance in the form of a traffic jam assist (TJA) system that integrates ACC with stop-and-go capability, lane centering (which, confusingly, is called Lane Keeping Assist), and traffic sign recognition. Oddly, the base Honda Odyssey LX still doesn’t have BSW with rear cross-traffic warning, but all other Odyssey trim levels do. A rear-seat reminder system is standard on all 2022 Odysseys.

The 2022 Honda Odyssey earned a 5-star overall NHTSA crash rating. The IIHS named the 2021 Odyssey a Top Safety Pick+, the Institute’s highest safety rating.

Infotainment and Technology

Every 2022 Chrysler Pacifica comes with a 10.1-inch touchscreen interface backed by the new Uconnect 5 infotainment platform. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration are standard, along with simultaneous, dual-phone connectivity and Amazon Alexa virtual-assistant capability. The available TomTom-based factory navigation system uses over-the-air updates.

The optional Uconnect Theater package provides dual, 10.1-inch rear displays that allow rear passengers to stream content via Amazon Fire TV for Auto. The package also includes HDMI ports, a 115-volt outlet, and a Blu-ray player.

The base LX version of the 2022 Honda Odyssey has an old-school 5-inch LCD screen and Bluetooth. All other Honda Odysseys have an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment interface with wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.

The Touring and Elite have factory navigation, the CabinTalk in-car public-address system, the CabinWatch rear-seat monitor, and a rear entertainment system with dual 10.2-inch screens, an HDMI port, a 115-volt outlet (150 watts), and a Blu-ray player.

Comfort and Utility

Ease of entry and exit is one of the best reasons to buy a minivan, and you’ll have no difficulty loading people or cargo into a Pacifica or Odyssey. Sliding rear doors and walk-through access to the third row really make a difference.

You’re not going to run out of space or storage slots in either minivan, but depending on your eye for style, you might find the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica more upscale in ambiance. Its dashboard has a flowing design and softer shapes. Both automakers have dispensed with a conventional transmission shifter to free up space; in the Pacifica, you select gears with a rotary dial.

Chrysler offers standard Stow’ n Go fold-flat seats in the Pacifica’s second row. These seats are convenient when you need to haul larger items, but once your toddlers become teenagers, they aren’t very comfortable for sitting. Conventional captain’s chairs are standard on the Pinnacle and all Pacifica Hybrids.

Cargo capacity in the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid ranges from 32.3 cubic feet behind the third row to 87.5 behind the second-row seats. With all rear seats folded or removed, the maximum capacity is 140.5 cubic feet. A hands-free power liftgate (and sliding doors) is optional on the Pacifica Touring L and standard on higher trims.

The 2022 Honda Odyssey has a more angular dash design, but this van still feels luxurious on the higher trim levels, thanks to high-quality materials. Honda sweats the details in its family vehicles to the point that the pattern on the Odyssey’s floor mats is purposely designed to conceal dirt. The transmission gear selector buttons are a possible miss, though, as it’s easy to hit the wrong button.

In the second row, all 2022 Odysseys except the LX have a Magic Slide feature that allows you to slide the seats laterally toward the center (to prioritize third-row access) or apart (known as wide mode) to enable big families to install three car seats in a row.

Cargo capacity in the 2022 Honda Odyssey ranges from 32.8 cubic feet of volume behind the third row to 88.8 cubic feet behind the second-row seats. With all rear seats folded, the maximum capacity is 144.9 cubic feet. A power liftgate is standard starting on the Odyssey EX-L; the Elite has hands-free access.

Advantage: Neither
